Cotton Mill Nile River is, strictly subjectively of course, our favourite colour in this fabulous new range of engineered oak flooring. Perhaps it is down to the fact, as it undergoes a medium smoking treatment, it can be said to echo colours seen in the other two options – manifesting an oak floor jammed-pack with a varied though harmonious tone that simply sings.
As with all colours in the Cotton Mill range, Nile River experiences a gamut of hand-applied aging and finishing practices giving each plank a heightened individuality. From saw markings to hand-scraping, subtly aged edges and a light brushed finish, this superb engineered oak floor has a gorgeous time-worn aesthetic. The same whitewash treatment is also applied to Nile River, settling in the oak’s natural grain patterns, knots & cleaves, and this whitewash contrasts fabulously with the medium smoked oak colour. This creates a stronger statement in regard to colour and appearance than the paler B11+B12 so perhaps would suit a scheme where a deeper base is required.
Cotton Mill colour Nile River oak floor is available in 1.5cm (15mm) thick engineered boards, 220cm in length & 22cm wide (2200mm x 220mm) in an UV oiled finish. This engineered wood flooring has individually distressed & antiqued edges and fits together via tongue & groove. More installation information can be found under the specification tab.
Design Tip: Compliment the time-worn look of this oak floor by choosing uniquely aged or weathered, but naturally coloured, solid wood furniture pieces to really connect the design. Frame these mother nature colours with a soft green-grey wall paint such as Little Greene’s Cool Arbour for a beautiful, cohesive scheme.

Grade | NATURAL GRADE: Natural Grade wood (also known as Character Grade) flooring will include both heartwood and sapwood. It is an affordable and attractive option that is full of character. Natural grade allows a wider range of colour variation, knots are larger and there will be incidents of checks (stable splits) across & between the growth rings, all of which add to its natural charm. Filler will be used and the colour is traditionally dark, carefully selected to compliment the oak rather than to match it or ‘disappear’. |
Glue-Down | We recommend fixing engineered oak, where possible, with the Glue-down method. Using a high-quality adhesive will result in the most stable floor installation as the base of each board is bonded directly to the sub-floor. No underlay is needed and no gluing of the tongue and groove is required. We recommend Bona Quantum flexible wood flooring adhesive though many other brands are available – speak with your installer as they will likely have a tried and tested product they can supply. |
Floating | Glue-down method is not appropriate for sub-floors that are damp, are mixed i.e. timber subfloor combined with concrete/screed sub-floor or have specific requirements such as acoustic deadening. With sub-floors of this type the Floating installation method will likely be proposed by your installer. The boards are not fixed to the sub-floor but instead uses the weight of the floor itself to keep them in place, usually with the use of an underlay between the sub-floor and boards. The tongue & groove would normally be glued in a floating installation. NB: Beswick stone do not provide underlay, glue or any other wood installation product. |
Blending | Shade and colour variation should be expected in our real timber engineered oak products. Each board will react differently to the finishing processes used and have unique characteristics such as knots and highlighted grain. Stronger tone & colour variation can occur between batches, so it is recommended you ensure you order enough for your project in one batch. As always when laying real timber flooring a good number of packs should be opened at a time and blended. |
Cleaning | The Bona Premium Spray Mop for Oiled Wood Floor is the easiest and most effective way of cleaning oiled wood floors in the home. Simply spray and wipe the floor clean. It cleans and nourishes your oiled wood floor while providing extra protection. |
