If you are looking for an aged effect hardwood floor with oodles of rustic charm then our light smoked Antique Heritage #14 engineered oak flooring is definitely the solution. Each plank has been hand-worked to incorporate the unique features & textures often seen after years of use, producing an authentic aged oak look but in a modern, engineered board. Plus, this fabulous looking oak has been further texturized & treated with a white-wash to add a subtle time-worn charm, highlighting the brushed timber grain & elevating the woods inherent natural beauty. As the name suggests Antique Heritage #14 is based on traditional oak floors – a timeless look that never dates. The visual warmth of this smoked wooden flooring really does accentuate the feel & aesthetic of a well-preserved hardwood floor; used but never abused and lovingly maintained.
Beswick Oak’s beautiful light smoked & white-washed engineered oak planks create a floor that perfectly replicates the time-worn distressed, aged & antiqued appearance of a well-trodden, natural timber floor. Resulting in a look that is warm, textured and distinct, spaces benefiting from good natural light will reflect the artisanal hand detailing. This is an excellent choice for large open plan living spaces and kitchens that have large areas of glazing or French windows. Alternatively, the use of shaded lamps, candlelight or wall lighting will imbue a small sitting room, cosy study or cottage-look kitchen with an air of snug relaxation. With its hardwaxed oiled finish, Antique Heritage #14 is also well-suited to high traffic areas like hallways and corridors & is easy to maintain. With so much to recommend it, why would you go against the grain?
Design Tip: As with pale toned woods, smoked wooden floors pair well with fresh, simple colours that form a muted backdrop to the oak. Choose light tones that can add a touch of colour and have a relaxed feel, shades like Gauze or Bone China Blue with their very subtle hints of blue & grey. Or if it’s drama and mood you’re after the deep, dark blues will work wonderfully with smoked oak floors, dive into the bold contrast of Mazarine as your kitchen unit colour to compliment the hardwood floor. Gauze, Bone China Blue & Mazarine are colours by Little Greene.

Grade | NATURAL GRADE: Natural Grade wood (also known as Character Grade) flooring will include both heartwood and sapwood. It is an affordable and attractive option that is full of character. Natural grade allows a wider range of colour variation, knots are larger and there will be incidents of checks (stable splits) across & between the growth rings, all of which add to its natural charm. Filler will be used and the colour is traditionally dark, carefully selected to compliment the oak rather than to match it or ‘disappear’. |
Glue-Down | We recommend fixing engineered oak, where possible, with the Glue-down method. Using a high-quality adhesive will result in the most stable floor installation as the base of each board is bonded directly to the sub-floor. No underlay is needed and no gluing of the tongue and groove is required. We recommend Bona Quantum flexible wood flooring adhesive though many other brands are available – speak with your installer as they will likely have a tried and tested product they can supply. |
Floating | Glue-down method is not appropriate for sub-floors that are damp, are mixed i.e. timber subfloor combined with concrete/screed sub-floor or have specific requirements such as acoustic deadening. With sub-floors of this type the Floating installation method will likely be proposed by your installer. The boards are not fixed to the sub-floor but instead uses the weight of the floor itself to keep them in place, usually with the use of an underlay between the sub-floor and boards. The tongue & groove would normally be glued in a floating installation. NB: Beswick stone do not provide underlay, glue or any other wood installation product. |
Blending | Shade and colour variation should be expected in our real timber engineered oak products. Each board will react differently to the finishing processes used and have unique characteristics such as knots and highlighted grain. Stronger tone & colour variation can occur between batches, so it is recommended you ensure you order enough for your project in one batch. As always when laying real timber flooring a good number of packs should be opened at a time and blended. |
Cleaning | The Bona Premium Spray Mop for Oiled Wood Floor is the easiest and most effective way of cleaning oiled wood floors in the home. Simply spray and wipe the floor clean. It cleans and nourishes your oiled wood floor while providing extra protection. |
