Our stunning Cotton Mill range of aged, engineered oak flooring kicks off with the colour B11+B12 – a delightful, pale oak floor, chock full of character & interest coupling the majesty of natural oak with expertly applied hand-aging techniques.

The lightest colour in the Cotton Mill range, B11+B12 undergoes a very light smoking or fuming that deepens the planks colour with each one reacting uniquely to this process producing a beautiful variation of tone. After the myriad of artisan hand-working, a whitewash is applied which subtly highlights the oak’s grain, adding a much greater depth to this engineered oak floor than one finished solely with an oil. This pale, almost untreated or unfinished oak colour is in heavy demand and with the unique hand processes used to produce Cotton Mil, creates an oak floor that has something that little bit different; a certain interest and look that captivates and enthrals for certain.

Cotton Mill colour B11+B12 oak floor is available in 1.5cm (15mm) thick engineered boards, 220cm in length & 22cm wide (2200mm x 220mm) in an UV oiled finish. This engineered wood flooring has individually distressed & antiqued edges and fits together via tongue & groove. More installation information can be found under the specification tab.

Design Tip: Pair this pale oak floor with warm neutral grey or greige walls to produce a wonderfully warm and stylish combo – take a look at Fescue or Ceviche for suggested paint colours by Little Greene. Add bolder colours in your soft furnishings to inject another level of oomph into the scheme.

Grade NATURAL GRADE: Natural Grade wood (also known as Character Grade) flooring will include both heartwood and sapwood. It is an affordable and attractive option that is full of character. Natural grade allows a wider range of colour variation, knots are larger and there will be incidents of checks (stable splits) across & between the growth rings, all of which add to its natural charm. Filler will be used and the colour is traditionally dark, carefully selected to compliment the oak rather than to match it or ‘disappear’.
Glue-Down We recommend fixing engineered oak, where possible, with the Glue-down method. Using a high-quality adhesive will result in the most stable floor installation as the base of each board is bonded directly to the sub-floor. No underlay is needed and no gluing of the tongue and groove is required. We recommend Bona Quantum flexible wood flooring adhesive though many other brands are available – speak with your installer as they will likely have a tried and tested product they can supply.
Floating Glue-down method is not appropriate for sub-floors that are damp, are mixed i.e. timber subfloor combined with concrete/screed sub-floor or have specific requirements such as acoustic deadening. With sub-floors of this type the Floating installation method will likely be proposed by your installer. The boards are not fixed to the sub-floor but instead uses the weight of the floor itself to keep them in place, usually with the use of an underlay between the sub-floor and boards. The tongue & groove would normally be glued in a floating installation. NB: Beswick stone do not provide underlay, glue or any other wood installation product.
Blending Shade and colour variation should be expected in our real timber engineered oak products. Each board will react differently to the finishing processes used and have unique characteristics such as knots and highlighted grain. Stronger tone & colour variation can occur between batches, so it is recommended you ensure you order enough for your project in one batch. As always when laying real timber flooring a good number of packs should be opened at a time and blended.
